ESK oil separator (OS)

ESK oil separators effectively separate the oil carried along in the compressed gas flow on multi-layer strainers and the baffle plate.

Oil separator (OS)

A proportion of oil/oil mist is usually conveyed from the compressor into the system with the refrigerant mass flow. Depending on the operating conditions, this can result in a lack of lubricant in the compressor with the following effects:

  • Low oil pressure
  • bearing damage
  • piston abrasion
  • engine damage

Furthermore, if the oil content in the evaporator is too high, the heat transfer is adversely affected and the compressor running time is increased. ESK oil separators are therefore also recommended by compressor manufacturers when planning cost-effective systems if the following criteria are met:

  • Systems with t0 < -10°C
  • composite systems
  • Flooded evaporators
  • 2-tier systems
  • power control
  • cascades
  • Widespread plants
  • booster

Oil separators effectively separate the oil carried along in the compressed gas flow on multi-layer strainers and the baffle plate. The separated oil is returned via a precision float valve. The usual degree of separation of approx. 97…99% is essentially determined by the operating conditions, the reduction in gas velocity and the flow path in the device.
